Behind the scarlet gate amongst the bougainvilleas is a distinctive 1940s bungalow designed and built by a lumber baron from Oregon and lovingly dubbed the "Bougainvillea Bungalow" by the Cathedral City Historical Society and chosen for their 2012 property of the year.
