319 22nd Street West or "Chateau Coco" was built by the same builder, H.C. Van Swearinger,of the historic "New Manatee River Hotel" in 1926 (the Roaring Twenties). The hotel has been restored as the Hampton Inn and Suites in downtown Bradenton (one mile away from 319). The Builder and original owner of 319 built the house as his personal residence. The Builder referred to the house as "Le Chateau Coco" as the architecture was "Province inspired style" from homes he visited on the Mediterranean Coast, east of the Rhone River in France. "Chateau Coco" is on the Gulf Coast of Florida, south of the Manatee River. "Chateau Coco", "New Manatee River Hotel", "Seagate" (Powel Crosley Estate), and John Ringling's "Ca' d'Zan" were all completed in 1926. All with the same construction materials of concrete & brick with a stucco exterior finish (extremely strong and durable). In addition, as custom buildings embellished with glazed tile and ornamental cresting (reliefs acquired in Europe and brought to Florida to incorporate into the houses). They do not build structures like this anymore. The hotel is on the "National Register of Historic Places" and conceived as a ritzy playground for the roaring twenties. Called the "Queen of the west coast", it hosted Herbert Hoover, Greta Garbo, Clark Gable, Babe Ruth and Al Capone. 319 22nd Street West or Chateau Coco is a Custom Built House by a renowned builder.
