Though it’s on the rise, vegetarianism still isn’t an especially mainstream dietary choice; a 2013 Public Policy Polling survey estimates that 13% of the population of the U.S. consider themselves to be vegetarians.

Electoral trends show America’s large cities growing more and more liberal, meaning urban conservatives are becoming more and more isolated. However, there are a handful of cities out there that provide friendly habitat for city-dwelling conservatives.

Last year, a record 36 percent of American young adults (ages 18-31) were living at home with their parents. Some simply failed to launch their adult lives and chose to move home to reconnect with microwave Hot Pockets and their Sega Genesis.

Sometimes there’s a man who, well, he’s the man for his time and place, he fits right in there—and that’s The Dude, in Los Angeles. Unfortunately for The Dude, that time and place was 1991 in Venice Beach, and in the years since the real estate prices have skyrocketed.

The impulse to move somewhere new and reinvent yourself is very American thing. Whether fleeing a failed relationship, searching for opportunity, or simply for the thrill of the unknown, Americans are a semi-nomadic people always eyeing the horizon.

We picked our top six cities for locavores based on proximity to farms, ranches and fishing areas; local enthusiasm for the locavore lifestyle; and the availability of locally-sourced ingredients through Community Assisted Agriculture (CSA), farmers markets, and farm-to-table restaurants. In the end we chose these came out on top…
