Here Are the Presidential Candidates Americans Google the Most

The next presidential election is still a year away, but voters across the country are doing plenty of research on the candidates. Here at Estately we were curious which candidates were drawing the most interest by voters in each state. To determine this we used Google Trends to measure the past 12 months of Google searches for all candidates currently polling at or above 2%.

The results showed the country is largely consumed with the Donald Trump presidential bid, whether as enthusiastic supporters or as horrified onlookers. Dr. Ben Carson is drawing plenty of interest in the South, while Sen. Ted Cruz has pockets of interest around the country as well. Candidates like Governors John Kasich, Chris Christie, and Mike Huckabee are generating internet searches in their home states, just as Senators Rand Paul, Marco Rubio, and Bernie Sanders are in theirs. New Hampshire was most interested in the two women in the race—Sen. Hilary Clinton and Carly Fiorina.

Listed below are the rankings for who was Googled the most over the past 12 months.

Searches For All Candidates

When it comes to overall searches of the 12 candidates, there were some real geographic disparities. Perhaps because of their upcoming primaries, New Hampshire and Iowa had the most searches for all candidates combined.

The five states who absolutely can’t be bothered to look into who their next president might be were South Dakota, North Dakota, Alaska, Wyoming, and Oregon.

When it came to searches for the Republican candidates, these ten states had the most searches.

Searches For Hillary Clinton

Sen. Hilary Clinton drew the most interest in the Northeast and her home state of Arkansas. Voters in the South apparently remember her and don’t feel the need to be reminded.

Searches For Bernie Sanders

It’s not a surprise that the South hasn’t risen up for a socialist from Vermont, but it is a surprise that Oregon isn’t reading up on him.

Searches For Ben Carson

The Left Coast isn’t too interested in the brain surgeon who’s surging in the polls, but the South is taking notice.

Searches For Donald Trump

Donald Trump is generating interest in a pattern that’s similar to his famous hair. It’s strong along the Eastern Seaboard and then sweeps down low to across the Southern Border before brushing back across the Northwest border with Canada. It’s a geographical combover.

Searches For Marco Rubio

Marco Rubio has some pretty broad geographical interest, but his campaign can only hope that those Google searches for him emanating from Nevada are coming from billionaire campaign donor Sheldon Adelson.

Searches For Ted CruzSEARCHES FOR TED CRUZ

Sen. Ted Cruz draws interest from his home state of Texas, but Dr. Ben Carson is proving to be a distraction in much of the South.

Searches For Jeb Bush

Seems like most of the interest in Gov. Jeb Bush is coming from blue states, which doesn’t bode well for the primaries.

Searches For Carly Fiorina

Carly Fiorina is getting attention in primary states, as well as New England and the Rocky Mountains, and Alabama is definitely intrigued.

Searches For Mike Huckabee

The Bible Belt is Gov. Mike Huckabee’s bread and butter, but the Mountain West can’t be bothered with him.

Searches For Rand Paul

If Rand fever is spreading it appears to be pouring over Kentucky’s borders and into neighboring states.

Searches For Chris Christie

Chris Christie is definitely drawing interest in the Rust Belt, as well as the New York Metropolitan Area. However, not sure there are too many Republican voters there.
